Mattel releases Lavarne Cox Barbie

The first trans Barbie is being released by Mattel as part of their Tribute Collection to celebrate trailblazing women. The Barbie doll will amplify Cox’s important message as a prominent LGBTQ+ advocate and living more authentically.

The Barbie signature design team worked closely with Cox to create a “triple-threat ensemble” comprised of “multiple red-carpet-ready looks” using layering the different pieces to create different looks. Starting with an oxblood red faux leather corset, trimmed with satin ribbon on all the seams, and paired with an oxblood red tulle dress which drapes gracefully over a glittering holographic bodysuit. Matching silvery earrings and heel boots complete the stunning look.

The doll is available directly from Mattel or from retailers with a suggested price of $40 USD.
