Son of Superman comes out as bi in upcoming issue

In the next issue of the Son of Kal-El series, Jonathan Kent (son of Clark and Lois) will come out as bi, falling for Jay Nakamura, a handsome male reporter. Issue 5 hits stands in November, so you can catch up on issues 1-4 for the lead up to Jon’s falling in love.

The Superman: Son of Kal-El series premiered in July, with new issues released monthly. The first issue cover even features the headline: “The beginning story of the daring exploits of the 21st century.” That premiere book sets up the epic series and Jon’s role in replacing his father as the world’s Superman. From issue two we see Jon begin college and navigate a double life.

The early images from issue 5 give us different perspectives on Jonathan’s looks. In the hardline panel, we could be mistaken in thinking he is the original Superman, with the well-defined jaw and trademark hair cut. While in the promotional poster, the softness and fine detail reveal the teenage Jonathan with boyish looks and a youthful hairstyle all his own. There’s also more story behind Jay to uncover.

On the small screen, Jonathan is one of Lois and Clark’s teenage twin sons, but the onscreen Jon (played by actor Jordan Elsass) has yet to discover his powers, while his brother Jordan (Alexander Garfin) found his powers in season 1. So far the younger Jon has not shown interest in boys, but this is in the Arrowverse and several years before college aged Jon comes out.

In an undated image provided by John Timms/DC Comics, Jonathan Kent, the new Superman, who is the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane, shares an unexpected kiss with his friend Jay.
