Filming wraps on the British LGBTQ+ teen drama Heartstopper
Netflix order an 8-episode first season expected later this year
Heartstopper has completed filming and will head into post-production getting ready for a fall 2021 or winter 2022 premiere. The LGBTQ+ teen drama is adapted from a graphic novel by Alice Oseman that first got started on Tumblr.
The story follows classmates Nick and Charlie, who when forced to sit together, start a friendship that leads to other things. Charlie is out and Nick is the popular kid who Charlie doesn’t think he has a chance with. We can expect the series to cover a number of important topics for teens, from mental health to being authentic.
Casting for the roles was announced earlier this spring with Kit Connor taking the role of Nick Nelson (he’s best known for playing a younger Elton John in Rocketman). An opening casting call that saw thousands of auditions brought in Joe Locke to play Charlie Spring. Also in the cast are William Gao, Yasmin Finney, Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell, and Sebastian Croft (previously of Penny Dreadful and Game of Thrones).
No trailer or release date have been announced, but we’ll update you when we know more.
