Fury as It’s a Sin snubbed at BAFTA TV awards

May 8, 2022 · By

The Channel series by Russell T. Davis (and currently most binged C4 series) had seven nominations going into Sunday Night’s award show, leaving London’s Royal Festival Hall with no hardware. Viewers were furious as the 80s AIDS drama was completely snubbed despite leading the nominations.

Failing to secure an award was one of the biggest shocks of the evening. Singer/actor Olly Alexander was up against tough competition for Leading Actor, but his performance had been stellar. Lydia West’s equally heart-warming performance also failed to pick up Leading Actress. The three-way split on Supporting Actor may not have helped It’s a Sin win in that category.

But the hardest loss of the night came early when the five-episode show failed to win Best Mini-series. There’s no second season to pick up the award later.

Four of the five people in the above photo had a BAFTA nomination, twice for Callum if you count the Virgin Media best moment award (we don’t, given the results).

Olly came dressed to absolutely kill.

Those watching at home couldn’t believe their loss and took to Twitter to complain.

One person wrote: “Wtf? It’s a Sin overlooked again – what is actually going on? #BAFTAS.”

A second added: “It’s A Sin being robbed tonight & Time did deserve a BAFTA but so does that drama too #BAFTAS.”

While a third wrote: “I loved ‘Time’ but ‘It’s a sin’ not winning a bafta is criminal! The only show that made you cry and laugh at the same time – the most incredible writing and acting #robbed #BAFTAS.”
